START Family Mentor DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT The family mentor will serve as a team member in planning, supporting, and implementing strategies to develop a safe, nurturing, and stable living situation for families with substance use disorders (SUD). The family mentor will serve as a team member of the Sobriety Treatment and Recovery Team (START) program, whos goal is to reduce the number of children entering out-of-home care by providing stronger services and support to the family, as well as reduce the rate of children re-entering care. Candidate must have strong communication skills, and display good listening skills, demonstrate the ability to be self-reflective, ability to work independently and in potentially stressful situations, ability to transport START parents to SUD treatment, medical, education, social services, and mental health appointments, ability to connect START parents with recovery support and meetings, and maintain case history records and prepare reports. Minimum Qualifications: High School Degree, GED, or equivalent, minimum of two years sobriety, experience as a former child welfare client with prior SUD history and treatment and experience as a parent advocate/family mentor in any system preferred.
